In May, we invited key leaders from businesses across the South West to attend an exclusive behind-the-wire event at the annual Ten Tors Challenge.
Forty representatives from businesses across the region attended the event which took place at Okehampton Camp on Dartmoor.
The Ten Tors Challenge is attempted by 2,400 teenagers in 400 teams of six. The teams navigate routes of 35, 45 or 55 miles (depending on age) over the northern half of Dartmoor, visiting ten nominated tors / check points in under two days. Teams must be self-sufficient, carrying all that they need to complete their route and stay out overnight safely
At the event, employers were given information about the Cadet Forces and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers, and were offered advice on ways to support them and the wider Armed Forces community in their workplace. They were then given a tour around the behind-the-scene workings of this impressive multi-agency event, to get an understanding of the challenging logistics that allow it to take place.
Employers were shown around the operations room, given briefings by some of the many agencies who support the event, and were finally taken to the finish line to see successful teams receiving their medals. The event was a success, with many valuable conversations about how businesses could better offer support to members of the Cadet Forces.
