Six outstanding individuals from the Cadet Forces and Reserves were honoured for their dedication and service to the Defence community at a special ceremony held at Devizes Town Hall.
The recipients were presented with prestigious awards by the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sarah Troughton, in recognition of their meritorious contributions.
The event, which celebrated the tireless efforts of volunteers and reservists, saw six deserving individuals awarded His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificates for Meritorious Service.
These awards acknowledge exceptional service in support of the Defence community and the development of young people in the Cadet Forces.
The recipients of the certificates included:
- Captain Carol Maison, Wiltshire Army Cadet Force
- Lance Corporal (LCpl) Stuart Bruce, The Royal Wessex Yeomanry
- Lance Corporal (LCpl) Susanne Slade, The Royal Wessex Yeomanry
- Petty Officer (PO) Reuben Jackson, Trowbridge Sea Cadets
- Staff Sergeant (SSgt) Amanda “Susie” Kennedy, LIAG (Defence | Digital, UK StratCom)
- Warrant Officer Class 2 Squadron Sergeant Major Jonathan Helm, 10 Signal Regiment
Additionally, a Chief of the General Staff Commendation was awarded to an individual for their exceptional contributions, and several Cadet Force Adult Volunteers were recognised for their long-standing commitment with the presentation of Cadet Force Medals and Clasps.
Speaking at the event, Lord Lieutenant Sarah Troughton expressed her admiration for the recipients and their contributions. “It is with great pride that I give out all of the awards tonight. There are thousands of Cadets in the South West, supported by thousands of adult volunteers. So, to you, and the Reservists, and the companies who employ adult volunteers and reservists, I thank you sincerely for being involved.”
The ceremony also honoured four outstanding Cadets, who were invested as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets, serving as ambassadors for the youth of the region. In recognition of the vital role that businesses play in supporting Defence personnel, 13 businesses were also presented with Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Awards for their commitment to supporting the Armed Forces community.
The ceremony highlighted the vital role that adult volunteers and Reservists play in supporting the UK’s Defence forces and the development of young people through the Cadet Forces. Their efforts help ensure that the next generation is equipped with the skills, discipline, and leadership needed to serve the nation.
The Lord Lieutenant’s remarks and the ceremony itself highlighted the invaluable contributions of these individuals and their communities, celebrating their exceptional dedication to the Defence sector.
