06.11.2024

In a ceremony held at Devizes Town Hall, four exemplary young people were appointed as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets by the Lord-Lieutenant of Wiltshire. This prestigious role, recognising the commitment and achievements of cadets in Wiltshire, is one of the highest honours in the cadet forces and involves supporting the Lord Lieutenant at official engagements throughout the year.

The newly appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets are:

Cadet Company Sergeant Major Rebekah Slarke from Matravers School Combined Cadet Force

Cadet Corporal Daisy Edmonds from Wiltshire Army Cadet Force

Cadet Sergeant Harry Whittle from 2491 (Lyneham) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets

Cadet Warrant Officer Katie Martin from 878 (Highworth) Squadron, Royal Air Force Air Cadets

Chosen for their leadership, dedication, and service within their respective cadet forces, these young individuals will now assist the Lord Lieutenant at various ceremonial and civic events across Wiltshire. Their responsibilities may include supporting official visits and representing the youth of Wiltshire at events of local and national significance.

Speaking at the investiture, the Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Mrs Sarah Troughton, praised the recipients for their remarkable achievements and contributions, noting, “it is with great pride that I give out all of the awards tonight. There are thousands of Cadets in the South West, supported by thousands of adult volunteers, so to you, and the Reservists, and the companies who employ adult volunteers and reservist, I thank you sincerely for being involved.”

Each of the cadets has excelled within their units, demonstrating not only skills in leadership and teamwork but also a commitment to helping others, whether through volunteering, community outreach, or other charitable activities.

The investiture marks the beginning of a memorable year of service for these young leaders, who will gain valuable experience and skills through their new roles, as well as a unique opportunity to represent their peers across Wiltshire.
