On Wednesday 25 January 2023, His Majesty’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Gloucestershire, presented cadets with badges and certificates after they successfully completed the Duke of Edinburgh’s Bronze Award, as part of Gloucestershire Army Cadet Force’s Annual Presentation Ceremony, that took place at Blackfriars Priory.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme of activities which complements the Army Cadet Force’s Army Cadet Syllabus
and other activities, which Cadets participate in. The award is an internationally recognised qualification, and by participating in the award, young people develop the skills and attitudes needed to become more confident and feel a true sense of achievement.
His Majesty’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant for Gloucestershire also presented Cadet Serjeant Finley Hitchings of Eastern Avenue Platoon, C Company, his BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Teamwork and Personal Development Certificate. Those achieving BTEC are required to demonstrate the high standards of knowledge, practical skills and understanding required.
The second distinguished guest of the evening, The Right Worshipful Mayor of Gloucester, Mr Howard Hyman, presented the Three Star Army Cadet Syllabus certificate and cadet stable belt to those cadets who had completed their three-star training.
The Army Cadet Syllabus is a major component of the Cadet Experience, which aims to set young people up for lifelong success. It’s a progressive training programme, arming cadets with life and military skills throughout their cadet career. Starting at basic level at the lower end up to Four Star and Master Cadet at the upper end.
Colonel Cadets South West, Colonel Rob Guest presented the Cadet Force Adult Volunteer Promotions and Second Lieutenant Fiona Mitchell was presented with her Commissioning Scroll.
The Army Cadet Force follows the same rank structure as the Regular Army, allowing for progression through the ranks depending on the individual’s achievements, qualifications and appointments within the Army Cadet Force.
The Cadet Force’s Warrant, given in recognition of achieving and being appointed to the rank of Serjeant Major in the Cadet Forces, was presented by National Colonel Cadets, Colonel Ashley Fulford.
Finally, Commander South West, Colonel Gary McDade, presented The Cadet Force Medal and Clasps.
Congratulations go to all who were awarded for their achievements.
