Join the Royal British Legion in WSM for Community, Camaraderie, and Support at Weekly Coffee Mornings
Veterans, Reserves, and Cadets Unite to Strengthen Local Connections
Western Super Mare, — On a sunny Thursday morning, the Western Super Mare (WSM) Royal British Legion (RBL) centre buzzed with laughter and lively conversation as veterans, reservists, cadets, and community members gathered for their weekly coffee morning.
The event, led by WSM RBL Chairman Rob Bywaters and Secretary Sue Packham, highlighted the enduring spirit of camaraderie and the critical support available to veterans of all generations.
Attendees young and old shared stories of shared heritage, from lighthearted anecdotes about local figures like Wolfgang of Soltau (“if you know, you know”) to heartfelt discussions about the evolving needs of veterans. The gathering underscored the RBL’s mission to provide a welcoming space for service members past and present, while also emphasising the vital role of the Reserves and Cadets in empowering adults to serve their country and community in new ways.
“It was a joy to join the WSM RBL community and see firsthand the bonds being forged over coffee,” said Mark Shelford. “Whether reminiscing or addressing serious challenges, this is where veterans find understanding and support. But we need more voices—especially those who may not realise how much they have to offer or gain here.”
A Call to Action for WSM Veterans
The WSM RBL urges veterans in the area to connect with their peers at the weekly Thursday coffee mornings (10:00 AM–14:00 PM). A special monthly session offers tailored advice on benefits, mental health, and career opportunities, with experts on hand to guide attendees.
For those inspired to continue serving, the Reserves and Cadets provide pathways to mentorship and leadership. Adult volunteers are needed to shape the next generation of community-minded individuals through training, teamwork, and civic engagement.
