Outstanding Volunteers Honored at HMS Flying Fox

In a heartfelt ceremony at HMS Flying Fox, the Lord-Lieutenant of Bristol, Mrs. Peaches Golding OBE, presented Certificates of Meritorious Service to exceptional Reserves and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers. This recognition highlights their outstanding dedication and invaluable contributions to the community and the development of young cadets.

The ceremony took place in front of an audience that included family, friends, and fellow servicemen and women. The recipients were celebrated for their commitment, leadership, and the positive impact they have made within their respective units.

The recipients of the Certificates of Meritorious Service included:

  • Mr. Anthony Matthews – Recognised for his remarkable service with the Bristol Knowle Sea Cadet Unit, where his leadership has greatly enhanced the training and experiences of cadets.

  • Sergeant Major Instructor (SMI) Pete Rendall – Honoured for his exemplary service with the Bristol and The Channel Islands Army Cadet Force, where he has inspired young cadets through his dedication and mentorship.

  • Lieutenant Commander (SCC) RNR James Russell – Acknowledged for his outstanding contributions to the Avon District Sea Cadets, fostering a strong sense of teamwork and discipline among cadets.

  • Warrant Officer 2nd Class (WO2) Jason Howitt – Recognised for his service with the 39 Signal Regiment, where his commitment to excellence has set a high standard for his peers.

Mrs. Golding praised the recipients, stating, “I want to thank all of our recipients, who in their own way have demonstrated the importance of their service. We heard about the work that they do in their local communities, bringing people together, having that common purpose.

“The Adults who work with out Cadets, instilling the values of commitment, adventure and challenge. All of the things that make us flexible, innovative. All of the things that have creativity yet that common beat which says this is the way we do things and this is why we do things.”

The Lord-Lieutenant’s Certificates of Meritorious Service are awarded to individuals who exemplify excellence in their service roles, demonstrating a commitment that makes a real difference. This recognition underscores the vital contributions of Reserves and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers in shaping the next generation of leaders.

In addition to the Certificates for Meritorious Service, Cadets were appointed as Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets for Bristol for the upcoming year, marking a prestigious milestone for these exceptional young role models. Cadet Force Adult Volunteers were also recognised for long service with Cadet Forces Medals and Clasps.

The ceremony concluded with a reception, allowing attendees to celebrate the achievements of these outstanding volunteers and share inspiring stories of their service.
